CSB Volunteers Gearing Up for Racine County Fair

Mega Ride Sales, Milk and Donuts, Auction Clerking Returns for Another Year

UNION GROVE — Community State Bank’s Rabeka Liberto understands a thing or two about showing exhibits at the Racine County Fair.

The 2023 Burlington High School graduate spent 14 years displaying award-winning animals, crafts and foods while becoming a Racine County 4-H Outstanding Teen and 4-H Ambassador.

For the first time, Liberto is preparing for a new role at the Racine County Fair.

“It’s going to seem really weird not bringing an animal or project to the Fair,” Liberto said. “It will be nice though to have a week where I can relax and encourage others.”

The 104th annual Racine County Fair will take place on July 29 to Aug. 2 at the Racine County Fairgrounds in Union Grove.

Liberto, who was hired last month as a CSB Universal Banker, will join several of her new CSB coworkers who volunteer each day at the fair.

Giving back in the community and offering a helping hand at events like the Racine County Fair is a proud tradition at the 128-year-old community bank.

CSB Retail Operations Director Caitlyn Eulgen has been attending the Racine County Fair since she was born. The Waterford native began showing projects through 4-H Cloverbuds and moved on to livestock before becoming a CSB volunteer.

“You don’t realize how many volunteers it takes to execute a fair of this size,” Eulgen said. “I didn’t realize it either until I started volunteering here. It’s really rewarding for me to see this whole experience come full circle.”

CSB staff is often one of the first groups on the fairgrounds each day, passing out free milk and donuts to all of the young fair exhibitors.

The bank tradition started over 10 years ago, according to CSB Assistant VP | Ag Business Banking Brian Lois.

“Milk and Donuts is really just a way to show the kids we’re here supporting them,” said Lois, a Burlington native and fifth-generation farmer. “The fair is about the youth and developing them into future leaders some day.”

CSB Retail Manager (Burlington) Becky Springer is a Kansasville native who grew up showing animals at the Kenosha County Fair. The 2022 Westosha Central graduate understands the commitment that goes into being a Fair exhibitor.

“It’s a lot of hard work, dedication, responsibility and respect for the animals,” Springer said. “There’s a lot of community, knowing you have people around you that can support you when you need it.”

Last year, Springer volunteered to join the CSB team responsible for clerking the animal auctions.

CSB staff spends hours at the Racine, Kenosha and Walworth County Fairs each year inputting data and collecting auction money to make sure young farmers and exhibitors get paid for their prized possessions.

“It’s a lot of prep work, a lot of work during the fair and a lot of post work,” said Eulgen, who is in her eighth year clerking the animal auctions. “During the fair we do a lot of data entry, a lot of collecting information for all of the exhibitors and their animals and then we turn it into a sale book, which happens over a span of three days.”

When she’s not sampling corn dogs, cream puffs, lemonade or other delicious fair offerings, Eulgen will be hard at work inputting data.

“I’ll be hiding in the (Racine County Fair office) basement,” Eulgen said. “That’s my hideout spot.”

CSB is the official retailer for the Racine County Fair Mega Ride Passes. Mega Ride Passes are $60 and include one-day gate admission and unlimited Midway carnival rides throughout the five-day event.

Passes are on sale through July 28. They can be purchased with cash or check only at CSB locations in Union Grove, Burlington, Mount Pleasant, Waterford and Paddock Lake.

It’s the behind the scenes work and volunteers that helps make a local, community tradition a success year after year.

“The Racine County Fair is one of the best fairs in the area,” Liberto said. “It’s my favorite week of the summer.”
