UNION GROVE — The unofficial Mayor of Union Grove is gaining a new title.
Longtime community champion Dave Moyer has been announced as this year’s recipient of the Frank Lamping Community Service Award. Moyer will become part of the first father-son duo to win the honor. Moyer’s father James Moyer was the 2021 recipient.
The community event and award presentation will take place on Thursday, October 1 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Community State Bank, 1500 Main Street in Union Grove. Food and beverages will be served.
“I know of no one more deserving,” Community State Bank CEO Scott Huedepohl said. “His name will be added to the plaque that has Dave’s dad Jim on it as well.”
Each year’s recipient receives $1,000 to donate to a local nonprofit or service organization. The selection was made by a committee of local leaders including Justin Ehrhart, Chris Bower, Russ Eichner and Carolyn Preston.
Nominees must be a resident, work within or volunteer in the vicinity of Union Grove, Yorkville, Kansasville or Town of Paris.
Dave Moyer grew up on the Moyer Family Farm, located on Highway A and Highway 45 in Yorkville. He is a lifelong farmer and proud advocate of the local agriculture community, particularly the youth and young exhibitors at the Racine County Fair.
In 2026, Moyer retired following a 20-year career at Community State Bank. He continues to work on his farm and give back to the community in many ways.
“I call him the Mayor of Union Grove,” said Bower, a local resident and lifelong friend of Moyer. “If there’s ever an event, Dave’s usually there with a smile mingling with people.”
Moyer reminds many of his longtime friend Frank Lamping.
Lamping was a member of the Union Grove Lion Club for 30 years and was actively involved in many local organizations. He continues to impact and inspire others over six years after dying from cancer.
“Dave reminds me a lot of Frank,” Bower said. “ You might not know who they are, but by the time you’re done with the conversation, you’re probably friends.
“He gets to know you and gets to know you at your level. It doesn’t have to be somebody that’s older, could be a young kid. Generations of kids look up to (Moyer), especially in the farming community and the community as a whole.”
Lamping was the inaugural Frank Lamping Community Service Award recipient on Sept. 5, 2019. He died on June 18, 2020.
Past winners of the Frank Lamping Community Service Award include Tom Czerniak (2020), James Moyer (2021), Cary Madrigal (2022), Gerry Hancock (2023), Jason Callewaert (2024) and Carolyn Preston (2025).
