Annual EVENT Runs Fridays and Saturdays Through May 30
UNION GROVE — There is a special place on campus at Shepherds College in Union Grove.
“Welcome to the Greenhouse,” said Logan Donnelly, a third-year Shepherds College horticulture student from Raleigh, N.C.
Shepherds College annual Spring Greenhouse Sale is taking place on Fridays and Saturdays through May 30th. Hours are 1 to 5 p.m. on Fridays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. The sale is also open on Memorial Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“It’s a very popular sale for the community,” said Laura Viol, Shepherds College Garden Manager and Assistant Horticulture Instructor. “I’ve had more than one person tell me they wait all year for our greenhouse sale, which is very encouraging.”
Shepherds College third-year horticulture student Alaina Dilg is from nearby Pleasant Prairie, Wis. She’s graduating next month, but isn’t leaving campus.
“I got a job opportunity to work in the greenhouse with Miss Viol and Miss (Rebecca Gerlach),” Dilg said. “Next year, I’ll be working with all the students. I’ll be working with horticulture students helping them out with the greenhouse sales, transplanting and whatever else I’ll be helping them with.”
The third-year students are one of the college’s final horticulture classes. The program is being replaced with a hospitality major. The annual Spring Greenhouse Sale, however, will live on.
“The horticulture class will graduate in 2027,” Viol said. “The hospitality students have already begun their training. We already have them on the schedule to work with the greenhouse sales so that they can get that experience with interacting and communicating with customers.”
