MyLife Kicks off 2026 Tour at Shoreland Lutheran

Award-Winning Financial Literacy Program Has Helped over 10,000 Students

SOMERS — Community State Bank kicked off its 2026 MyLife (My Local Interactive Financial Education) high school tour with a stop at Shoreland Lutheran High School on April 8, 2026.

The award-winning financial literacy simulation has helped over 10,000 students since its 2013 inception.

Students receive folders that list their occupation, martial status, income, credit score, debt and more. They’re tasked with making major purchases, while still budgeting enough money to pay for common expenses.

“It’s kind of neat this evolution, every time, of an excited group of kids that has this life that their proud of that they picked and they’re going to go conquer the world to how do I make this work?” Community State Bank’s Neil Buchanan said.

It’s a real-life crash course on learning the importance of budgeting money and understanding wants versus needs.

Shoreland junior Dominick Jones discovered he was an automotive technician with a low credit score, based on his MyLife profile.

"I learned you can really lose money fast and it really shows you what is good and what is bad about spending money,” Jones said. “You really got to choose your choices. You can’t go for the best thing every single time. You have to go for what you really need and what you don’t need you have to put aside.”

According to Wisconsin Act 223, at least 0.5 credit of personal financial literacy is required for graduation beginning with the class of 2028.

“Every student now is going to have to have a personal finance background, so MyLife is something we already wanted to do,” Shoreland Lutheran guidance counselor Sarah Schoenfeld said.

“Community State Bank has been awesome getting involved in the community and coming to Shoreland to help run this program.”

The 2026 MyLife high school tour continues at Westosha Central High School (April 17), Waterford Union High School (May 19) and Union Grove High School (May 21).
