community members gather to remember frank lamping and hear an inspiring message from john o'leary
On February 22nd, 2024 approximately 2,400 community members, gathered in the Union Grove High School Gymnasium to remember community leader, Frank Lamping and hear an inspirational message from nationally acclaimed speaker, John O'Leary. This event was organized by the Go Frank Go Foundation and was free for the community to attend.
On this special day, also known as Go Frank Go Day, the foundation organized three speeches by O'Leary to help promote community leadership, specifically for local youth. The first speech was geared towards elementary students. Approximately 1,000 students from Union Grove Elementary, Yorkville Elementary, Kansasville Grade School, and Raymond Elementary School attended. Following that event, O'Leary then spoke to another thousand students from Union Grove High School. Then, later in the evening, O'Leary held a third speech that was open to the public and free to attend.
"Mr. O'Leary was a very inspiring speaker. He made me want to be a better person and to live each day to it's fullest," said Union Grove High School student, Olivia Braun. "When he brought other students up to speak, it taught me that you truly don't know the battles that others are fighting behind closed doors and to always be kind."
The speech topics, while all different, focused on a similar message of "What More Can I Do?" A similar life mentality lived out by late community leader, Frank Lamping. O'Leary at a very young age was burned on 90% of his body, with a 1% chance of living. Today he is sharing his story with thousands. Because of the generosity of several local businesses and individuals Go Frank Go Foundation was able to bring O'Leary to Union Grove, Wisconsin.
"On behalf of the Go Frank Go Foundation, I would like to thank each and every community member, student, and parent that attended this event. It was well received and was the epitome of everything Frank stood for," said Foundation President, Jason Callewaert. "I would also like to thank Union Grove High School, Community State Bank, and every sponsor that was able to provide a helping hand or funds to help make this happen. Frank's legacy continues to live on in our community in a very positive way."
The Go Frank Go Foundation hopes to continue Go Frank Go Day events in the future. For more information please visit: donate2gofrankgo.org
