Community Resource Event Planned for January 4 in Kenosha
KENOSHA – Community State Bank’s Jessica Johnson understands the pain involved in losing a loved one to a drug overdose.
“I have witnessed good families left to wonder, ‘Why them?’,” Johnson said. “They are left trying to figure out how to even start the healing process.”
Looking to help others in need, Johnson reached out to local nonprofit Sarah’s Hope and Recovery Foundation.
The nonprofit was founded by Kenosha’s Theresa Newman, who lost her daughter Sarah Beckius from a Fentanyl overdose on Nov. 24, 2021.
Newman hopes to prevent anyone from going through what she experienced with the loss of her daughter.
In support of Sarah’s Hope and Recovery Foundation, Johnson joined five of her coworkers and donated through Community State Bank’s seventh annual #Gift2Giving employee-driven donation campaign.
Community State Bank’s Brittany Nickerson, Jeanne Vanderwerf, Katie Benser, MacKenzie Graf and Kristy Ellis also participated.
Sarah’s Hope and Recovery Foundation is one of 17 area nonprofits chosen as a recipient of over $15,000 raised through the campaign.
Community State Bank gives each of its employees $150 to donate to a nonprofit organization of their choice. In addition to the bank-provided funds, Community State Bank matches any employee donation up to $150.
Sarah’s Hope and Recovery Foundation was created to empower individuals, families and communities by providing comprehensive education and compassionate support for those affected by substance abuse.
The group sponsors community resource events focused on preventing overdoses. A free Narcan training session will take place on Jan. 4 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Northside Library in Kenosha.
