#Gift2Giving: Children’s Wisconsin Impacting Local Families, Helping Communities Stay Healthy

Fliess Family Credits Kenosha Medical Staff for Saving Son’s Life

KENOSHA – Community State Bank’s Bill Fliess will forever be grateful for the team of medical professionals at Children’s Wisconsin – Kenosha that helped save the life of his two-year-old son Will.

Just three weeks after he was born on Nov. 3, 2022, Will was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis and stopped breathing.

Fortunately, Will was in good hands.

“The number of doctors and nurses looking after him was shocking, yet also amazing,” Fliess said. “It seemed like all hands were on deck to make sure he was OK. We were at the right place.”

Children’s Wisconsin – Kenosha was one of 17 local nonprofits chosen as a recipient of over $15,000 raised through Community State Bank’s annual #Gift2Giving donation campaign.

Community State Bank gives each of its employees $150 to donate to a nonprofit organization of their choice. In addition to the bank-provided funds, Community State Bank matches any employee donation up to $150.

For the second straight year, Fliess chose Children’s Wisconsin – Kenosha. He was joined by coworkers Marion Myers, Terri Lott and Zoe.

“I'm so grateful for all that Children's Wisconsin has done for our family and what they do for others in the community,” Fliess said. “They saved my son's life.”

The donation will stay local allowing Children’s Wisconsin – Kenosha to help its facility operate with the best staff, equipment and services possible, according to Julie Caan of Children’s Wisconsin.

“I love that Community State Bank has Gift2Giving,” Caan said. “I think it’s so empowering when a business says to its employees, we not only want to give back but we want you to choose the organizations that most tug at your heart strings.”
