#Gift2Giving - Racine County Sheriff K9 Unit

a special donation to the racine county sheriff k9 fund

Teri EulgenEach year CSB supports our local communities through the #Gift2Giving Program. As a part of the program CSB awards each employee with $150.00 in funds, which are to be paid forward to a local non-profit of the employee’s choice. A lot of time and research goes into this every year and our employees learn more about the needs and services of our communities as a result.

This year, while researching non-profits, I was made aware that the Racine County Sheriff K9 Unit and their fund to support K9 Officers. The past year has been a hard year for the K9 Unit as they lost 2 of their dogs due to health reasons. I also learned that the K9 Unit is solely funded on donations. It took me about 3 seconds to decide, hands-down, that they were my donation choice this year.

I reached out to my fellow co-workers and I'm happy to say that 8 of us are pleased to present a donation to the Racine County Sheriff K9 Unit. Additionally we had 2 employees step up and make personal donations as well! On December 7th the K9 Unit visited our Waterford location where we were able to present the donation and meet a few of the K9 Officers and their Handlers in person.

We learned about all of the different specialties these dogs have and how some are trained in very specific areas of law enforcement. We learned about the extensive levels of training each pup must undergo before they are able to work in the field, which is a large part of why the cost of replacing a K9 Unit member is so staggering. Donations, like ours, also help pay for any supply or health needs of the K9s, as the Handlers are responsible for paying for any of those costs. Our specific donation will help equip two of the K9 vehicles with technology to help keep the animals safe while in the vehicle. If conditions are unsafe, the handler will be notified by their phone immediately. We're so honored to help accomplish this for the K9 Unit.

I have to say that meeting the K9s in person was pretty amazing. They are so powerful and you can really sense that they come ready to work! When they put on that vest they 100% transformed into Officers right before your eyes. It really is quite impressive and I’m proud to lend a hand in helping the next generation of working dogs in Racine County Sheriff K9 Unit.

For our donation, our CSB Marketing Team followed along and made a video! Please take a peek below and if you find yourself inspired... please reach out to the Racine County Sheriff Department and donate today!
