Disaster Response Team Named 100 Women Who Care - Western Racine County Recipient

Event has raised nearly $35,000 for local nonprofits

BURLINGTON — A local nonprofit created to offer a helping hand when people need it the most was named this year’s recipient of 100 Women Who Care - Western Racine County on Wednesday at Mercantile Hall in Burlington.

Disaster Response Team (DRT) will receive nearly $7,000, donated by a group of Racine-area women looking to make a positive impact in their community and beyond.

100 Women Who Care - Western Racine County is organized and sponsored by Community State Bank.

This year’s event attracted 67 women. Each attendee brought $100 ($50 for attendees under 30) and donated those funds to a charitable cause selected by the group.

DRT was one of three finalists randomly chosen for the night's award. Burlington-based Music Matters and Habitat for Humanity for Racine and Kenosha Counties were also selected.

Representatives from each group were given five minutes to introduce their organization and mission. Attendees listened to all three presentations and voted for this year’s recipient.

Community State Bank’s Molly Krause served as the night’s emcee. CSB’s Barb Bakshis announced DRT as this year’s winner.

"100 Women Who Care - Western Racine County is about bringing people together to make a real difference, while building meaningful connections," Krause said. "We're honored to support this event and the impact it has on our community, especially for this year's beneficiary Disaster Response Team."

DRT is a faith-based group of trained, credentialed volunteers — ready at a moment’s notice — to offer assistance during disasters or emergencies. The nonprofit formed in 2017 following severe flooding in Burlington.

100 Women Who Care - Western Racine County has raised nearly $35,000 since its 2022 inception. Past recipients include Health Care Network (2022), Transitional Living Center (2023), Mathias Academy (2023), Shepherds College (2024), Women for Tomorrow (2025) and Life Choices (2025).

This year’s event was sponsored by Experience Burlington, Greater Union Grove Area Chamber of Commerce and Waterford Area Chamber of Commerce.
