Riverfront Property Set to Receive Facelift, Community Room
BURLINGTON — A community bank serving southeast Wisconsin for the past 128 years is upping its commitment, opportunity, and footprint in Burlington.
Community State Bank has begun a year-long expansion project aimed at turning the corner of Bridge Street and Jefferson Street into a community gathering hub along the scenic Fox River.
“We’re putting down bricks and mortar, which is more than saying you participate in the community, it’s helping build the foundation,” Community State Bank VP | Market President (Burlington) Dave Schalk said. “It shows our commitment in the most visible way possible.”
The expansion allows the bank to occupy the entire commercial property, located at 308 Bridge Street. Plans involve renovating the interior and exterior and constructing a community room open to the public.
“The idea is for local organizations and the community to come together and take advantage of a beautiful spot right along the riverfront,” Schalk said.
The project involves multiples phases, with bank interior and exterior work set to be complete in late summer. The entire project, including the community room, is expected to be done in 2027.
Longtime community banker Barb Bakshis joined Community State Bank as Senior VP | Business Banking last fall. The Burlington resident witnessed firsthand Community State Bank’s dedication and commitment right in her own backyard.
“When you drive through a community, you can feel there’s something there by the way a community is put together,” Bakshis said.
“Community State Bank is committed to serving the people who live here. We’re involved in everything. We really live it.”
Founded in 1898, Community State Bank has seven locations throughout Kenosha, Racine and Walworth counties. It’s headquartered in Union Grove.
“While we continue to learn from our long history, our focus remains on the future,” Community State Bank CEO Scott Huedepohl said.
“Our commitment to growing markets like Burlington, and the hard-working people who live there, can only help continue our success for another 128 years.”
